Frequently Asked Questions

Choose a question below to see more details.

  • What types of automated gates are available for commercial properties?

Eagle Fence & Guardrail installs a full range of commercial gate systems built with security as the primary focus — protecting facilities, controlling vehicle access, and meeting compliance requirements for businesses, institutions, and industrial facilities throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Common options include:

    •         Sliding gates — ideal for high-traffic entrances and wider openings; operate along a track parallel to the fence line

    •         Swing gates — suited for lower-traffic entry points with adequate clearance

    •         Barrier arm gates — used in parking lots for managed vehicle access

    •         Security gates — heavy-duty options designed for perimeter protection and restricted access facilities

For residential properties, Eagle Fence also installs slide and swing driveway gates — contact us for residential gate installation options.

  • How do I choose the right gate for my business?

The right gate depends on your traffic volume, opening width, site layout, and security requirements. Our team works with you to assess your facility and recommend a system that balances security, throughput, and budget. We handle everything from single-entry parking lot gates to multi-lane commercial gate access control solutions.

  • Can the gate be customized to match our brand or facility aesthetics?

Yes. Commercial gates are available in a variety of styles and finishes. Whether you need a clean, professional look for a corporate campus or a heavy-duty industrial solution, we'll spec a gate that fits your environment.

  • What are the options to control who enters and exits?

Commercial gate access control systems support a wide range of access control options, which can be used individually or in combination:

    •         Key fobs or proximity cards — employees badge in without fumbling with remotes

    •         Keypads — keypad gate access control systems offer PIN-based entry for staff, vendors, or guests

    •         Intercom or video intercom — allows remote verification and gate release from a guard station or office

    •         Smartphone-based access — app or cloud-managed entry for modern facilities

    •         Integration with existing access control systems — Eagle Fence can coordinate with your security vendor

  • Can the gate integrate with our existing security or access control system?

Yes. Eagle Fence & Guardrail can provide a full commercial access control system or coordinate with your existing security vendor to integrate the gate into your current system. Whether you’re running electric gate access control systems or an older platform, our technicians are experienced with a wide range of commercial access control platforms.

  • Can we manage access for multiple users or vehicle types?

Yes. Commercial systems can be programmed with tiered access — different credentials for employees, vendors, visitors, and emergency services. Administrative controls allow you to add, remove, or modify access rights as your needs change.

  • What safety features are required for commercial gates?

Commercial gate operators must comply with UL 325, which mandates entrapment protection — sensors or devices that detect an obstruction and reverse the gate before contact. Depending on the gate type and location, additional safety features such as warning lights, audible alerts, and edge sensors may be required or recommended. Eagle Fence's team is trained on current safety standards and ensures every installation is fully compliant.

  • What are loop detectors, and do commercial gates need them?

Loop detectors are in-ground sensors embedded in the pavement near a gate. They detect the presence of a vehicle and automatically trigger the gate to open — allowing vehicles to exit a parking lot or facility without requiring a separate credential or button press. They are commonly used in vehicle gate access control for parking lots, commercial campuses, and industrial facilities where smooth, contactless exit flow is important.

Whether loop detectors are appropriate for your installation depends on your site layout and traffic management requirements. Our estimators will assess your access points and recommend the right combination of sensors and automation for your facility.

  • Can the gate be opened manually in an emergency?

Manual release options vary by gate type and operator model. Not all commercial gate operators include a manual release — particularly high-security configurations where manual override would create a vulnerability. Where a manual release is included, it typically disengages the motor so the gate can be operated by hand.

Battery backup is also a choice, not a standard feature on every system — it is selected on a case-by-case basis depending on whether continuous operation during a power outage is critical for your facility.

Emergency responder access is an important consideration — your system can be configured with a Knox Box or other emergency access solution so first responders can enter when needed. Our estimators will discuss all of these options during the design process.
